Rokoko, a Danish company known for its motion capture and animation products, aims to be the animation hub for all of its work. The company started with two of its products, Smartsuit pro and Smartgloves, which help capture complex body movements. Now they have launched Rokoko Video, a free access to Rokoko features through a web browser.
Users of the free tool can upload videos of moving people or record themselves using a webcam or phone. Motion files will be automatically extracted and used to create avatars in games and movies, track the development of athletes, etc., among other things.
Users simply launch Rokoko Video in their browser and upload their video or use their webcam or smartphone camera to record their movements. The cut and trimmed clips are immediately sent to the Rokoko engine, controlled by artificial intelligence. Rokoko Studio users can then access the motion data. They can enhance the data with complex filters like Footlock before exporting it to their favorite 3D tools like Blender, Unreal, etc.
Rokoko offers users this free solution, but with limitations. Without smart suits and smart gloves, Rokoko videos would be difficult to provide with real-time animation. Because Rokoko video only uses computer vision technology to record body movements, it may not provide better capture. Therefore, for better animation, users need smart gloves and smart suits.
Despite its limitations, this solution is ideal for small startups and authors looking for a less expensive Mocap solution. Rokoko CEO Jakob Balslev says many aspiring designers are trying to find cheap and convenient motion capture technology. With Rokoko Video, they can now learn motion capture and character animation easily and for free.
The decision was successful because more AI software tools were added to the pipeline. Jacob explained how Rokoko’s video web solution works without a hardware solution and noted that their hardware and software development has always been linked, even though hardware is more visible to the public. Rokoko is well positioned to develop AI-based motion capture, editing, and analysis tools because they can handle large amounts of motion data. Their product roadmap includes a growing number of similar AI software products as they turn Rokoko Studio into a cloud-based animation hub.
While Rokoko video is a good solution to limit high quality capture, it can be a problem in motion capture applications. It has many uses, such as trying out a new idea or pre-imagining it. Rokoko offers advanced filters such as foot blocking and many features that can help creators get more interesting content. It also provides an affordable solution for authors who need mockup content.
